CHARACTER INFORMATION

NAME: Jake Muller
CANON: Resident Evil (6)
AGE: 21
CANON POINT: After the completion of Jake and Sherry's mission, in the final scene of Ada's mission, end of game. Taking jobs on the super-cheap for the right reasons.

BACKGROUND: Jake Muller @ RE Wiki + Jake Muller file @ Project Umbrella
INCENTIVE/FIT: Jake's incentive would be the opportunity to save his mother from the illness that killed her. He joined the mercenaries to make enough money to pay for her medical bills, but she died before he was able to earn the money. While he is satisfied, now, with how his life has gone and doesn't want to retroactively change it lest he risk missing out on meeting Sherry and the experience he's had on the mission, he would want his mother to have lived, somehow. Whether it means slowing the illness until he rescued her, or sending back some of the money he's made in the meantime as a mysterious anonymous gift to his younger self, just in time to get her treatment, even if he can't see her in order to have his current life, he would want her to still be alive.

While Jake is still a bit of a loner and not extremely comfortable with physical affection, he will eventually adjust. Jake has softened considerably over his time in his canon, and will slowly learn how to do what he needs to in Eudio. He is relatively sexually inexperienced, but, while he will be extremely awkward at first, he is a healthy young man with a normal libido, and once he gets used to it he'll be more than capable of it.

ANYTHING ELSE? Here are Jake's abilities:

Jake is superhuman due to either traits inherited from his father's genetic tampering with viruses that gave Wesker his superhuman traits, or his inherited immunity mutating and adapting to the C-Virus injection he received in the first scene of the game. He has slightly heightened stamina, strength, intelligence, and durability compared to the characters in the game confirmed as normal humans. Besides these, he has some learned abilities and natural talents that aren't superhuman, which I will list below:

- Combat Skills: Jake has been a mercenary since his mid-teens, and has an extensive knowledge of the use of many types of firearms and grenades.
- Vehicles/Machinery: Jake is quick to pick up using new types of vehicles, being able to operate snowmobiles, motorcycles, and boats on the fly during his campaign. He is also frequently shown to pick up how to use complex machinery several times after just a bit of investigation.
- Hand to Hand Combat: Jake is particularly good at hand-to-hand combat, and uses a special martial arts stance and training that allows him to attack unarmed with devastating force. Some of his hand-to-hand strikes can cause as much damage as gunshots.
- Quick Learner: Jake can play the piano, and learned to speak Mandarin Chinese just by listening to the people around him - he could understand after two months, and speak it (and possibly read it) after 6 months.

He'll probably be bringing a gun with him, but he won't carry it around or anything.

Background Information:

Personality: Jake is a decent man, with a good sense of right and wrong, a distinct lonely streak and a natural desire to help others, but due to his difficult upbringing and turbulent youth, he has grown up hardened and untrusting, his nature obscured by a tough shell of dismissive sarcasm, constant snarky banter, and cold selfishness. He has learned that, despite his best intentions, he has to look out for himself because no one else will, and due to a traumatic childhood experience with not having enough money for the necessities, he can be far too focused on amassing money. Thankfully, he is slowly opening up to the idea that some things are worth more than money.

Jake is a person who has gone through a tremendous upheaval and development of character through his canon, that allows for showing off a wide variety of his personality traits, both the ones that truly represent who he is and the ones he uses to protect himself. At the start of his campaign he was cold, untrusting, and completely focused on the payout at the end of the job, despite being told that saving the world was in his hands. Instead of jumping into the mission to save the world, Jake demanded 50 million dollars in exchange for just one pint of his antibody-containing blood, which would end a global bioterrorism attack. Constantly pushing others away with a steady stream of arrogant and bitingly sarcastic jokes, Jake had a tendency to talk over others, a habit he never quite stops falling into, a technique he uses to avoid having to bond with people or risk being bonded with. Acutely aware of what he is - a mercenary who kills for the highest bidder, who fights in a war he has no political stake in and no passion for winning - Jake considers himself something of a monster, a bad man, and that persona is one that he has been comfortable with filling for years. It's his default, and when he found out who his father was, a mad scientist who tried to destroy the world, he found it easy to blame his actions on his genetics, a hereditary monstrosity impossible to avoid.

There is evidence that Jake was an extremely trusting and compassionate person when he was younger - he joined up with the mercenaries in order to pay for his single mother's medical expenses, and was quick to trust his first trainer and mentor figure. In both cases, it dramatically backfired, with his mother dying shortly after he became a mercenary and his mentor betraying his team and leaving them to die in enemy territory. Hardened, Jake decided to make sure such things would never happen again. He became a loner, violent and powerful, self-sufficient, a man who could take care of himself and avoided caring for anyone else who might suffer because of him or betray him.

Still, throughout the course of the game, he has started to learn that he can be different than his father was. He has learned that sometimes it pays off to allow himself some vulnerability. Carefully, he has learned through his association with Sherry and her consistent support, compassion, and unwillingness to take his shit, that it's okay to care, that it's worth it to do something simply for the sake of helping others. He has slowly started to put in the effort, and he has been rewarded for it, which has helped him realize that it's safe enough to follow along with what he knows is the right thing to do. By the time his mission is through, he's lowered his asking price for his blood from 50 million dollars to just 50, and is shown to help protect a child as a mercenary for the mere price of an apple. Jake has learned that he doesn't have to be like his father, that he can be his own person and do the right thing, and that is something incredibly satisfying for him.

The change hasn't been easy for him. He still has a hard time interacting with people he doesn't know, or people who are aggressive toward him, he dislikes people who do things because they're just following orders, and still harbours a lot of suspicion toward the military and other similar organizations. Jake has spent so long being an abrasive loner with no interest in helping others or making friends that he can be incredibly awkward when interacting with the people he does care for. He's overly protective, awkwardly honest about his feelings even when they're hurtful, lashes out with assumptions about how people feel or think. He's still hard, despite all he's learned, and keeps up his tough guy front, he still acts like a hardass, even while indulging his kinder side.

BONUS OPTIONAL SECTION:
Opt-in?: Yes
What the character is going to lose: his memory of what his mother's face looks like
Why you picked it: Jake's mother was the one person he safely trusted before Sherry came along, and she is incredibly valuable to him as a memory. Losing part of his memory of her would be upsetting to him, and would make it impossible for him to will into being photos or anything similar, while still letting her know she existed.

▸SAMPLES:

First Person:

[The audio feed starts up with a crackle of static, and the only sound for a while is someone whistling an idle tune - it's not anything recognizable, just a bit of whatever's in his head, and it tapers off with a soft chuckle.]

This place is one hell of a hot mess, isn't it? I'd be more surprised that the whole world was really a shithole all along if the place I was a few days ago wasn't a shithole already. Out of the frying pan, into the fire.

[He pauses for a few long moments, and the only sound is his slightly rasping breath, and the slight noises of clothing rubbing against clothing while he shifts around a little.]

I just wish this hellhole was as well supplied as the one I left. I sure could go for an apple right about now.

Third Person:

He'd thought it was a dream, at first, the cloying smell of infection, the press of damp, clammy flesh against his, not entirely alien but not human either. The flesh of J'avo, and what they turn into, clinging to him and then invading. It hurts, in a way he hadn't anticipated, a way he thought he was immune to, and he finds himself flailing against the inevitable, arms lashing out, feet kicking, the sounds of his boots thudding into flesh echoing in his ears along with his heartbeat and his gasping breath.

But it doesn't feel like a dream when a tentacle of ropy, infected flesh twists upward and latches against his face, a tendril pressing into his mouth. He can't breathe, all he can smell is death, and he can't lift his hands, he's pinned down, he can't claw at it, yank it off him. The tendril moves deeper, into his throat, his lungs, into his gut, and it swells there, infecting, swelling organs with sick tumours, and he can't sustain it, can't keep it together.

Jake jerks awake with a hiss, his chest rising and falling heavily, gloved hands sliding up and down the front of his shirt, checking his body for signs of disease. Infection. Things he should have been immune to, because if he's not then there was no point in saving the world.

"Shit."

He hisses it out as he finds no tumours growing at his belly, both arms intact, legs intact, his torso clear, and lifts his hands to ensure there are no growths on his head. After a moment, he drops his hands, and looks around.

He'd been expecting his bunk, and the place he's sitting in looks something like the room he's currently crashing in, but...different. Decayed. Destroyed.

Something in him feels the same way, but he can't put his finger on it, on what's missing. Because something is, definitely, something important.

"What the hell happened while I was out?"

Sliding off the approximation of a bed and trying to wipe off some of the decay, the dust, he looks around, mouth set in a hard line. Well. Interesting.

Nothing to be done but gear up with whatever's available, and take stock of the situation...and try to shake off that nasty dream.
